The Association of Armed Forces and Federal Optometric Services (otherwise known as AFOS) is the AOA Affiliate for all Federal Services Optometrists. Our members include those serving in the US Military (Air Force, Army, and Navy) and their Reserve components, Veterans Affairs, Public Health Service and Indian Health Service, and various other governmental entities such as FDA, FTC, Federal Bureau of Prisons, etc. We welcome residents currently in a federal service setting or students hoping to pursue a career in federal service optometry.
Because optometric care in the federal services is practiced in diverse environments and faced with challenging clinical care, communication among our members is a priority. Communicating relevant issues and staying at the top of our profession is facilitated through our two annual meetings and quarterly newsletters.
