This course is designed to expand the optometrist's understanding of noninfectious anterior uveitis beyond traditional topical steroid management and into the evolving landscape of biologic therapy. The lecture covers systemic disease associations, key biologic classes, landmark clinical trials, and relevant ocular side effects.
Dr. Amelia Rafael, OD, FAAO, is a Staff Optometrist and Officer in Charge at Brooke Army Medical Center, where she provides comprehensive eye care to military service members, veterans, and their families. A graduate of the State University of New York College of Optometry, Dr. Rafael completed an ocular disease residency with the Hudson Valley VA Health Care System and has extensive experience managing complex ocular disease in both military and civilian settings. She has served as the sole Army optometrist deployed in the Middle East, mentors optometry externs and residents, and is passionate about interdisciplinary care, education, and advancing clinical excellence in optometry.
