[Duplicate] AFOS Tuesday Talk
by Dr. Jacqueline Hallauer
AFOS Member, Dr. Jacqueline Hallauer, will present a 1-hr COPE accredited course titled "Eye-Opening Pharmacology: From Acute Care Cases to Confident Prescriptions". This course is case-based on how to treat and manage common cases that come in on a walk-in or after-hour basis. With audience engagement, both oral and topical ophthalmic medications will be discussed along with their common dosages and duration for the ocular condition presented.
Dr. Jacqueline Hallauer is a dedicated Staff Optometrist at the Woody Williams VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV. She actively contributes to the Tele-eye program and serves as the Residency Coordinator for four residents. Dr. Hallauer earned her degree from MCPHS in Massachusetts in 2017 and completed her residency at the John D. Dingell VA in Detroit, MI. Since then, she has remained committed to serving veterans through the VA system. In 2023, she achieved Fellowship status with the American Academy of Optometry in New Orleans.
Dr. Hallauer’s commitment to optometry extends well beyond the clinical setting. She holds pivotal roles within AFOS, currently serving as the Education Co-Chair and as one of the two VA Board Members. Additionally, Dr. Hallauer contributes her expertise to the American Optometric Association Education Committee and chairs ACOE Residency Accreditation visits throughout the year. Originally from Northern Michigan and a proud Michigan State University alum (Go Green!), Dr. Hallauer unexpectedly found her professional home in West Virginia after a reassignment to the VA there. It didn’t take long for her to realize that West Virginia was exactly where she belonged.
Beyond her optometric endeavors, Dr. Hallauer shares her life with her wonderful husband, Russ, whom she met while working at the VA hospital. They reside on a charming farm in the hills of WV, surrounded by a delightful array of animals—and most importantly, their beautiful daughter, Anastasia. Welcomed in 2024, Anastasia has brought immeasurable joy and a new sense of purpose to their lives. Whether it's watching her discover the world or simply enjoying quiet moments as a family, Dr. Hallauer treasures the balance between her professional calling and the deep fulfillment of motherhood. When not caring for patients or wrangling animals on the farm, you’ll find her immersed in her next crochet or crafty project.
