Dr. Jennifer Camp, LTC USA (ret) Nancy Kerney, Senior Recruiter Luxottica Eye Care Stevie Mitchell, VSP Sr. Recruiter Dr. Jennifer Camp served twenty years as an Army optometrist and healthcare leader. A graduate of UCLA, Baylor University, and the Southern California College of Optometry, she trained over 50 optometrists during her tenure in the military. She earned her Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry in 2001 and in the American College of Healthcare Executives in 2011. Dr. Camp is a seasoned optometry leader as well as hospital administrator, culminating in her service as Chief Operating Officer of Moncrief Army Community Hospital and Chief of the Reception Medical Clinic at Ft. Jackson, SC. After her retirement from the military, she explored numerous modes of administration and practice including nursing home optometry, private practice, commercial optometry (employed and sublease), and low vision. She is passionate about assisting new veterans with their post-military career choices. A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Nancy Kerney transited to a civilian career of recruiter after her years of military service. With more than 26 years in the recruiting/human resources space (the last five of those with the Luxottica Eye Care team), Nancy is skilled at uncovering a candidate’s professional and personal goals and finding opportunities that will allow him or her to accomplish both. Samantha Sikes, Talent Acquisitions Walmart Health & Wellness Dr. Kyle Smith, LTC USAR Dr. Kimberly DarkeModerator Samantha started her Walmart career as an optical associate while obtaining her Bachelors in Science degree in Marketing from Illinois State University. She quickly was promoted to vision center manager in Stuart, Florida where she obtained her Florida state license in opticianry (LDO). In 2012, she graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a Masters of Business Administration. Samantha was then promoted to Sam’s Club optical market manager supporting Louisiana and Texas. During her time with Sam’s Club, she was intricately involved in developing standard operating procedures for the optical department as well as demonstrating a passion for developing associates. Samantha and her family reside in South Florida. She currently supports Walmart Health & Wellness Talent Acquisition and will be celebrating her 20 year Walmart anniversary in June. Walmart Opportunities and Info Sheets Kyle Smith, OD, grew up in a small town in Iowa before going to Wheaton College in the Chicago area, where he majored in biology and sang tenor in the Men’s Choir. He first came to Alaska in 1999 to visit his college sweetheart and future wife, Erika, who grew up in Anchorage and whose grandparents first came to Alaska before World War II. After completing his undergraduate degree he moved to Portland to attend Pacific University College of Optometry on an Army scholarship, during which he completed externships on Fort Richardson and at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami. His first year in the Army he completed advanced training in Family Practice Optometry at the State University of New York College of Optometry in Manhattan while stationed at West Point. He then completed tours in South Korea, Germany, and Iraq, before being stationed at Fort Richardson. He continues to serve in the Army Reserve in Alaska and has been completed humanitarian missions in Thailand. When not helping families with compassionate eye care Dr. Smith enjoys biking, running, woodworking, and traveling – and has run a marathon on all seven continents. Dr. Smith and his wife, Erika, have two young children, Quincy and Thatcher. Dr. Smith has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry since 2006 and served on the Fellow Admittance Committee for many years. He has served as adjunct clinical faculty for both the State University of New York and Pacific University, where he earned the highest rating for excellence in clinical education. He has published on advanced contact lens techniques for managing keratoconus and lectured on topics ranging from eye injuries to medical coding and infant contact lenses to learning disabilities.
